New Plants, New Gardens

How perennials and grasses conquered the world

Delighted, and honoured to be invited to give the Cornelia Hahn Oberlander lecture at the University of British Columbia, School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in Vancouver, Canada.

The focus will be on how one man, Karl Foerster shaped and enriched contemporary private and public gardens influencing other gardeners, plantspeople and designers including Wolfgang Oehme and Piet Oudolf to explore the use of perennials and grasses in a natural way. Through Heidi’s experience as a landscape architect, over 30 books and work as the curator of the 2024 Karl Foerster exhibition in Potsdam, Germany she has gained an insight and knowledge of the development contemporary garden design and plant use.
